Interaction is a big subject, ranging from Machine Theory to Design and Engineering.  

Interaction is a young subject, its formalization in Computer Science is as recent as 1996.  Earlier research in reactive systems and communicating processes predates Interaction Machine Theory, but these approaches don't illuminate the subject nearly as well.
